Awesome Xmas Present...

Just thought I'd share - my beautiful wife got me an awesome Christmas present (that she couldn't resist giving me early) - a Nook Color e-reader.  Of course the first thing I did was to load all the Black Library e-books on it:

  2. Will you be posting a review? I contemplated getting this very device for my wife, but opted against it due to battery life and my assumption that color wasn't required. Instead I got her the wifi model--I wonder if I made the right choice...

I probably won't be posting a review here, as that's a bit beyond the scope of this blog- but feel free to email me, and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

What I can tell you - the battery life is much worse than traditional "e-ink" readers - something like 8 hours for the color, vs. several days for the monochrome models. If that's a deal-breaker, go for the traditional model. However, I'm a gadget freak, and rarely travel without an assortment of chargers & adapters.

I was mainly looking for something that could serve as a laptop replacement and an e-reader for short trips - the web browsing experience on the Nook Color is good enough to accomplish that. If you are ONLY going to use the device for reading, the e-ink version would be better.

  5. Yeah, that's about what I figured. Since she isn't planning to read any magazines, I opted for a standard e-ink reader. If you were after a PC replacement, why not go with an ipad? It seems to do a better job an an e-reader can do... although it is a pricier option.

  6. Exactly - the iPad is waaaay too pricey for me. (Plus I already have an iPod Touch). It was pretty much between the Nook and a netbook - since all I really need is web browsing & email, the Nook does the trick.
